On SWISS flights there is no compulsory mask wearing on board during your journey*. Of course, you can choose to wear a mask if you so wish.

Yes. Masks are still compulsory on flights to and from China. Please note that you can only wear masks which meet the FFP2, FFP3, KN95 and N95 standards, with no valve, and that fabric or surgical masks are not allowed.

The only exceptions to this obligation are children under the age of six and persons who are not able to wear a mask for medical reasons.

You may only be excused from this obligation by showing a doctor’s letter or a Lufthansa form which has been filled out in its entirety and signed by a doctor. You must show this exemption certificate when boarding.

Regardless of the current coronavirus situation, there are clear procedures on board for cases when the cabin crew suspect that a passenger has a contagious disease. Some of these processes include the following measures: Relocation of the passenger to isolate them on board, use of disinfectant, use of personal protective equipment by the crew members, immediate notification of the authorities at the flight’s destination.

FFP2 masks can limit air flow into our lungs, which may cause health problems for those who already suffer from an illness. Even people who are otherwise healthy may find it difficult to wear such a mask for an entire flight. Our safety concept stipulates universal mask wearing. That means everyone protects everyone else. If you decide to wear an FFP2 mask on board, you are, of course, welcome to do so. Please note that this type of mask should not have an exhalation valve which may reduce the protection offered to your fellow passengers. Please think of this limitation and, if necessary, take another type of mask on board with you if you cannot wear an FFP2 mask for the entire flight.
