Apprenticeship as a polymechanic
Specialising in aircraft maintenance
Polymechanics are sought-after specialists in several fields of activity. During this apprenticeship, you will learn your trade and how to inspect, maintain and repair aircraft or aircraft parts. You will work in a team directly on the aircraft or in the workshops.
Job description
This apprenticeship lasts four years. During the first two years, you will complete basic training in the SWISS training workshop. You will learn job-specific tasks such as turning, milling, drilling, grinding and assembly. In the third and fourth years of your apprenticeship, you will specialise in aircraft maintenance at SWISS at Zurich Kloten Airport. You will attend the vocational college one to two days per week. You will complete your apprenticeship with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training. During the four-year course, you will also have the opportunity to obtain an EASA Category A licence.
Further training in various directions is then possible:
- Licensed aircraft mechanic EASA Category B1
- Engine mechanic
- Specialist for aircraft components
- Aircraft technician
- Master craftsman examination (higher specialised examination)
- Engineer
- University of Applied Sciences technician (e.g. aircraft technology school/FTS)
SWISS generally supports attendance at vocational secondary school. The vocational baccalaureate gives you the opportunity to study at a university of applied sciences.

Specialising in aircraft maintenance
Much of aviation is based on mechanical and electrical production technology. As a specialist at SWISS, you will check a variety of aircraft systems and modify electrical systems.

This apprenticeship lasts four years. During the first two years, you will complete basic training in the SWISS training workshop. You will learn how to solve control and automation problems and how to plan and implement electrical and electronic control systems. In the third and fourth years of your apprenticeship, you will specialise in aircraft maintenance at SWISS at Zurich Kloten Airport. You will attend the vocational college one to two days per week. You will complete your apprenticeship with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training. During the four-year course, you will also have the opportunity to obtain an EASA Category A licence.

- Aircraft technician IERA with EASA B2 licence in aircraft maintenance at SWISS
- Specialist for aircraft components
- Swiss certified industrial or master electrician
- Operations specialist

Apprenticeship as a Service and Administration Swiss Federal VET Diploma D&A Administrator

Are you fascinated by the world of aviation? Do you enjoy foreign languages, administrative tasks and interacting with customers? If so, then SWISS, in collaboration with the training association “login Berufsbildung [Vocational Training] AG”, has a varied apprenticeship for you.
Job description
During your three-year apprenticeship as a Service and Administration Swiss Federal VET Diploma D&A Administrator with the “Aviation” career path, you will explore the variety of the world of mobility. During your apprenticeship, we offer you the opportunity to experience four different apprenticeships in the field of aviation. This also includes exciting assignments at other “login” partner companies in the field of aviation.
One or two days each week will be spent at vocational college. In addition to the practical training during the apprenticeship, you will attend specific specialised training courses in aviation.
As a Swiss Federal VET Diploma D&A Administrator, you will be entitled to 13 monthly salary payments and seven weeks’ holiday in the first year of your apprenticeship, and six weeks in the second and third years. You will also be issued with a general rail pass for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in the whole of Switzerland and discounted travel abroad.
