Our culture
Our strength lies in the exceptional service we offer on a person-to-person basis, this is what makes each flight a true air travel experience, worldwide. The SWISS corporate culture is the foundation that underpins our thoughts and actions.
It is the shared pursuit of continually improving and always being open to new ideas. In this way, our interactions are based on mutual appreciation and trust, and we believe in complete collaboration.
We are driven by a passion for exceptional performance, in the spirit of our guiding principle, “Being SWISS means going the extra mile – always”. This is why we always take responsibility for what we do and get the job done – that is our defining quality and why we keep finding new ways to make SWISS stronger and better.
The SWISS company culture plays a decisive role in our ability to turn participation into teamwork, obligation into dependability, an employer into a mentor and a service into added value. Our employees are happy to talk about this culture in their own words, because our motto is: Truly SWISS... where people matter.
Annika Portmann, Pilot, Airbus Short-Haul Fleet
Working in the cockpit is finely-tuned teamwork. Flying a commercial aircraft with passengers, freight and crew safely and on schedule means we have to coordinate closely with different functional areas. One key aspect here is good communication with the cabin crew. However, we also need to work closely with air traffic controllers, the maintenance team, the flight control centre, and cargo handlers.
Malte Kriszun, Fleet Engineer
One of my main duties is to conduct the ongoing technical supervision of our aircraft and engine fleets. As soon as problems arise, I take proactive measures. Maintenance then carries out the repairs to the aircraft. To do my job properly, good communication with both the maintenance team and the aircraft and engine manufacturers is critical.
Dominique Fehlmann, Director Legal Counsel
As a lawyer, my job is to review the various contracts signed with our customers or business partners. An important aspect of my work is the legal protection of our brands. Our team takes strategic decisions related to our brand registration, we complete the application process and also deal with civil court cases.
Arnaud Ravier, Aircraft Engineer B1
Angela Ensslin, Head of Medical Services
My main duty is to carry out medical examinations on the cockpit and cabin crew members. My job involves conducting vision, hearing and stress tests. One of my main priorities is to create an atmosphere of trust during the examination and always be open to any questions my flight crew colleagues may have.
Carlos Clemente, Senior Application Engineer
Our team’s role is to maintain the swiss.com website. We are continuously expanding the platform to maximise the user experience for our customers. Any glitches are resolved without delay and we are always adding new features – such as a new booking system which enables our passengers to book their flight with just a few clicks.
Manuel Badertscher, Flight Dispatcher
I’m responsible for flight preparation and flight planning for our aircraft fleet and I support the cockpit crews in preparing their briefings. That means I am involved in aspects such as calculating fuel requirements for the aircraft based on ecological and commercial principles. We are available to support our cockpit crews at any time.
Roman Hartmann, Agent Cargo Hub Management
My job involves discussing capacity planning for our flights and this means I work closely with different teams, such as with Swissport, for example. When flights contain special freight items or special passenger baggage, my job is to check if an animal has enough water, or a valuable painting is safely loaded on board.
Urs Galliker, Network Duty Manager
As the head of senior operations, I manage all departments – both for operations and personnel. My responsibility is to ensure the safe, punctual and efficient operation of all flights. In addition, I regularly decide on aircraft fleet improvements and ensure our global troubleshooting process is running smoothly.
Nadja Griehl, Head of Social Media & Dialog Marketing
Ariane Sasaba, Cabin Crew Member
As a cabin crew member, it is my responsibility to provide a safe environment and exceptional service for our guests. To make sure this happens, our flight preparations are meticulous. For me, every day at work is different, with a new destination, constant crew changes and new guests to serve. This variety is what really appeals to me.
Severin Gloor, Head of Revenue Management Pricing
Together with my team, I am responsible for the pricing and steering to our global destinations from Central and Eastern Europe. It is important that we recognise market trends at an early stage and modify and develop our fare structures accordingly. I attach great importance to encouraging and motivating my team colleagues.
