SWISS names new Head of External and Environmental Affairs
Swiss International Air Lines has appointed Jean-Pierre Tappy, who is currently Head of Flight Operations at the carrier, as its new Head of External & Environmental Affairs. He will assume his new duties on 1 June. Tappy succeeds Antonio Schulthess, who is moving to become Head of Human Resources at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines.
Jean-Pierre Tappy, who is 53, can look back on more than 25 years of association with the company and the aviation sector. After completing his pilot training, he joined Swissair as an MD-80 First Officer in 1985, and went on to hold various management functions at the company, including Head of Flight Operations. He has been Head of Flight Operations and Emergency Director at SWISS since 2007. With his extensive knowledge and experience of flight operations and the broader aviation sector, Tappy is ideally equipped to credibly represent the interests of SWISS and Swiss aviation towards the outside world.
Jean-Pierre Tappy has played an instrumental part in the restructuring of SWISS’s flight operations and the company’s broader success since it was founded in 2002. His successor as Head of Flight Operations will be appointed in the next few weeks.
The opportunity is also being taken to reorganise SWISS’s External & Environmental Affairs unit. Responsibility for information technology, which forms part of Antonio Schulthess’s current brief, will be newly subordinated to Chief Financial Officer Marcel Klaus from 1 April.
