The Lufthansa Group is growing: With ITA Airways as a new member of the Lufthansa Group, the offer to passengers will be more attractive than ever before. Find out about the benefits of the merger and what’s coming next.

Thanks to the merger with ITA Airways, you will benefit from a much greater choice of travel options. Code-sharing creates more transfer connections within the network. This means greater flexibility in travel planning and implementation for your future trips, as well as coordinated flight schedules with optimized travel times. The five-star hub in Rome Fiumicino will become the Lufthansa Group’s sixth and southernmost hub.

The full integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group is taking place gradually and will include key measures such as its planned inclusion in the global airline alliance, Star Alliance.

Codeshare flights

The first ITA Airways flights for travel within Europe, starting March 30, 2025, can now be booked under a flight number from Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines or Brussels Airlines. ITA Airways brings a unique route network in Italy to the partnership. The codeshare agreement enables flights between ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group airlines on over 100 routes across Europe. This means that you, as our passengers, benefit from an even wider choice of flights and enjoy more flexibility. Further expansions to code-sharing, including intercontinental routes, will follow in stages over the course of the year.

Loyalty programs

Since February 3, 2025, frequent flyers have benefited from expanded opportunities. Miles & More members can now earn and redeem miles as well as points for their frequent flyer status on all flights operated by ITA Airways. Conversely, Volare members will also be able to earn and redeem points with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines. Lounges

Starting March 30, 2025, the lounge networks of the Lufthansa Group and ITA Airways will gradually be harmonized. This will give premium customers and loyalty-program members reciprocal access to a wider lounge network. During the harmonization phase, some special access rules may apply. Terminal changes

For an optimal connectivity, some changes are also planned at the Lufthansa Group hubs from the summer flight schedule 2025. In Frankfurt, ITA Airways will move to Terminal 1 to improve connections between ITA Airways flights and Lufthansa Group airlines flights. In Munich, a move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 is also planned to make travel more pleasant.

FAQs

Since February 25, 2025, you have been able to book flights operated by ITA Airways with a Lufthansa Group airlines flight number (codeshares) via SWISS channels. All other flights can only be booked via ITA Airways channels.

For codeshare flights this is possible. For any other flights this is not possible right now. You need to use the ITA Airways channels.

Yes. Miles & More members can earn and redeem Miles as well as Points for their frequent flyer status on flights with ITA Airways. Members of ITA Airways loyalty program, Volare, will be able to earn and redeem points on flights with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.
