Optional Payment Charge (OPC)

If your journey starts in Czech Republic (CZ), Germany (DE), Denmark (DK), Finland (FI), the United Kingdom (GB), Ireland (IE), Luxembourg (LU), Netherlands (NL), Norway (NO) or Poland (PL) an Optional Payment Charge (OPC) may apply.

OPC varies depending on the card brand and card issuing country.

  • Cards issued inside the European Economic Area (EEA):
    OPC will be charged for payments made by commercial credit cards (e.g. company or corporate credit cards) and JCB credit cards.
  • Cards issued outside the European Economic Area (EEA):
    OPC will be charged to all credit cards (commercial and consumer).

The maximum amount depends on the currency and is as follows: EUR 25, GBP 20, DKK 190, PLN 20, NOK 290 or CZK 680.

The OPC is charged at a standard rate in all transport areas and booking classes. 

No additional OPC is incurred for changes to bookings such as insurances and advance seat reservations and other subsequent additional payments. 

Tickets for infants (under the age of two) and Miles & More award tickets are exempt from the OPC.

The OPC is not refundable in the event of a cancellation.

Purchasing a ticket without OPC

There are various options for purchasing tickets without an OPC.

  • You do not have to pay the OPC at the SWISS ticket desk and your travel agent, unless you pay by credit card.
  • Additional OPC charges are not incurred in the context of changes to bookings such as advance seat reservations, adding insurance, and other subsequent additional payments.
  • Tickets for infants (under the age of two) and Miles and More award tickets are exempt from the OPC.
  • Additional payment methods are offered on swiss.com free of charge, such as pay per invoice, Instant Banking, PostFinance and China Union Pay. Availability will depend on the place of departure.
  • You do not have to pay the OPC when buying a ticket on swiss.com depending on the country of departure if you pay by the following methods:
