Physical reasons for booking an vacant neighbouring seat

We recommend you book an extra seat if one of the conditions below applies:

  • You are unable to occupy a single seat due to your body size
  • You are unable to fold down both armrests
  • You are unable to fasten your seat belt despite using a single belt extension

You can also book an extra seat without any physical reasons and so guarantee a free seat next to you. You can only book two extra seats for medical reasons.

It is not possible to book an extra seat on long-haul flights in SWISS Business or SWISS First.

Costs of a vacant neighbouring seat

The cost of an extra seat is equivalent to the airfare and international taxes for the flight ticket booked. No further taxes, fees and surcharges are charged for the extra seat.

Denial of carriage on fully booked flights

If you meet the physical conditions for booking an extra seat, we recommend you take advantage of this option. You may be denied carriage if a flight is fully booked and carriage is impossible solely on the seat booked without significantly restricting the space of the person sitting next to you. In this case you have no claim to compensation or alternative carriage.

If you want more space on board: add the extra seat to your booking

Sometimes a little space is exactly what you need. Treat yourself to that little bit of extra comfort and simply reserve the seat next to you from CHF 40.

Depending on the booking situation, you can reserve your neighbouring seat on flights operated by SWISS and be sure of it: The seat is guaranteed to remain free. To do this, contact our Service Center after you have booked your flight and make sure you get your additional space, if it is still available.
