Comfort devices for your trip: what can I bring with me on board?
Comfort devices may be used on board if they do not compromise the safety of the flight and the comfort of other passengers.
Which comfort devices may not be used on board?
Comfort devices may not be used on board if they:
- have to be attached to any part of the seat or to any other part of the aircraft;
- compromise the comfort of other passengers (for example by blocking other passengers’ access to the aisle);
- compromise or prevent the seat in front from reclining;
- prevent access to oxygen masks in the event of a decompression;
- prevent the correct use of the seat belt.
The cabin crew is responsible for the final assessment of the impact of comfort devices on flight safety.

Devices for extending the seat cushion to create a flat space for small children may only be used after the seat belt sign has been switched off after take-off. They must be stowed for take-off and landing.
On which seats may devices for extending the seat cushion to create a flat space for small children be used?
Devices for extending the seat cushion to create a flat space for small children may be used on seats next to a window or on middle seats in a block of seats between two aisles.
They may not be used on aisle seats, in the row of seats behind a bulkhead, or on emergency exit seats.
It is not permitted to use two or more devices for extending the seat cushion to create a flat space for small children on two adjacent seats.
Further conditions for the use of comfort devices for extending the seat cushion to create a flat space for small children
- Small children must fasten the seat belt across their chest or waist with their head against the backrest of their own seat and their feet pointing in the direction of travel.
- If the seat belt sign is illuminated during the flight, small children under 2 years must be placed on their parent’s lap with the seat belt for infants fastened.
Comfort devices are permitted in the aircraft cabin as carry-on baggage and must comply with all regulations concerning carry-on baggage.
Comfort devices must also fulfil the requirements for dangerous goods on board.
