Additional baggage and first bag on the LIGHT fare: terms and conditions

Passengers have the option of adding additional baggage at reduced fees.

• Offer only applies to passengers who have a reservation on a SWISS flight number, whose flight is operated by SWISS (or a wet-lease partner) and who have a valid ticket – special conditions apply to the first bag on LIGHT fares
• The additional baggage fee is valid for a one-way journey (outbound) or to the stopover point or final destination, and exclusively for flights with a SWISS flight number operated by SWISS (or a wet-lease partner).
• The additional baggage booked must not exceed the SWISS standard weight or dimensions of 23 kg and 158 cm. Any baggage exceeding the standard weight or dimensions will be charged the excess baggage rate at the airport.
• Baggage bookings do not apply to the carriage of animals (in the cabin or in the hold) or any sports equipment.
• Additional baggage may be paid for when you book your flight or after booking through your profile up to one (1) hour before departure.
• Additional baggage can also be booked at the airport at a higher rate.
• The number of additional bags you can purchase is limited. Passengers may purchase additional baggage up to a maximum of two (2) bags, irrespective of the booking class.
• Booking fees will be billed in the currency of the country of departure.
• SWISS reserves the right to change or modify its fares or these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
• Present the receipt for your additional baggage and the credit card you used at the airport check-in desk on departure. The receipt will be e-mailed to the address given during the purchase process. SWISS is not responsible for lost or misplaced receipts.
• The additional baggage booking is only valid for the flight and date shown on the receipt. If the flight is rebooked, the additional baggage booking is no longer valid expect in the circumstances described in the section “Rebooking and refunds” below.
• Additional baggage bookings are non-refundable except in the circumstances described in the section “Rebooking and refunds” below.
• All baggage is carried in accordance with the General Conditions of Carriage of SWISS.

Continental flights:

• When travelling on a SWISS / Lufthansa / Austrian Airlines Economy LIGHT fare, your fare does not include a checked baggage allowance. SWISS offers you the added benefit of a lower rate on a first item of baggage (23 kg, circumference 158 cm). This only applies to passengers who have a reservation for a SWISS / Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines flight number, whose flight is operated by SWISS / Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines (or a wet-lease partner) and who have a valid ticket for an Economy LIGHT fare.
• Miles & More members with Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status and STAR Gold members can enjoy the benefit of higher baggage allowances. However, the above benefits do not apply on SWISS Economy LIGHT flights.

Intercontinental flights:

• On some routes*, SWISS Economy gives you the added benefit of lower fees for a second bag (23 kg, circumference 158 cm).
• When travelling on a SWISS / Lufthansa / Austrian Airlines Economy LIGHT fare, your fare does not include a checked baggage allowance. SWISS offers you the added benefit of a lower rate on a first item of baggage (23 kg, circumference 158 cm). This only applies to passengers who have a reservation for a SWISS / Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines flight number, whose flight is operated by SWISS / Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines (or a wet-lease partner) and who have a valid ticket for an Economy LIGHT fare.
• Miles & More members with Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle status and STAR Gold members can enjoy the benefit of higher baggage allowances. However, the reduced booking fee for the second bag is not available in this case and on those specific routes. The regular additional baggage fee applies to any additional checked bag. The above benefits do not apply on SWISS Economy LIGHT flights.

*Applies to flights to/from: USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama

SWISS reserves the right to take legal action in the event of fraud.

• Infants under the age of 2
• Flights marketed or operated by airlines other than SWISS (exceptions see “Continental routes”)

• Additional baggage bookings may be transferred when changing an existing booking (subject to the applicable fare rules), but cannot be transferred to a different leg, other passengers or other airlines.
• Additional baggage bookings are refundable:
  1. If SWISS is unable to carry your baggage due to an aircraft change, cancellation or disruption to a SWISS flight, or
  2. Your baggage cannot be carried due to operational, safety or security reasons that are not attributable to an act or omission by the passenger.
• Additional baggage bookings are not refundable if the journey is cancelled by the passenger.
• Refunds will be paid in the original form of payment.
