Here's an overview of our sustainability efforts:
AeroSHARK Technology
Sharks in sight! SWISS is the world's first passenger airline to use AeroSHARK technology. This film imitates the skin of a shark and improves the aerodynamics of the aircraft. By applying AeroSHARK film to the fuselage and engine cowlings of its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, SWISS can save more than 4,800 tonnes of fuel and up to 15,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually - the equivalent of 87 long-haul flights between Zurich and Mumbai. Flying with sustainable fuel
SWISS uses sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from non-fossil sources to enable climate-neutral flying. SAF reduces CO2 emissions by around 80% compared with fossil fuels. Together with the Swiss start-up company Synhelion, SWISS is investing in the production of solar fuel, which is produced using concentrated solar energy. Flying with sustainable aviation fuel
Flying more sustainably
SWISS offers its customers the opportunity to make their flights more sustainable by purchasing sustainable aviation fuels or investing in climate protection projects. SWISS passengers can also opt for a "Green Fare" when choosing their fare. Fly more sustainably | SWISS
Operational efficiency
By continuously optimising its flight operations and working with Google Cloud, SWISS is able to make its daily flight operations more efficient and thus reduce its CO2 emissions. By using data and providing optimal scenarios, better decisions can be made and fuel consumption reduced.
Fleet renewal
SWISS is investing in modern aircraft to further reduce its CO2 emissions. With the integration of state-of-the-art aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo, which consumes around 20% less fuel and reduces noise emissions by 50%, SWISS operates one of the most modern and environmentally friendly fleets in Europe. The SWISS long-haul fleet will also be renewed by 2030. Fleet | SWISS
