It's Christmas, and we've got the magic of LXmas to prove it. This year's LXmas has been full of surprises: from Business Class upgrades to Santa on board, from elves handing out punch to Christmas-themed socks, from our SWISS Singers to our eye-catcher par excellence: our highly popular AirDeer. SWISS wishes you happy holidays with your loved ones.
December 1 - Red Nosed AirDeer
Our Red Nosed AirDeer: To kick off our LXmas campaign 2022, our great SWISS Technics team enchanted our HB-JDC Airbus A320neo with a red Christmas nose. Like a certain famous reindeer, our HB-JDC will fly all over Europe throughout December. Follow the red nose step by step below and keep your eyes open towards the sky because maybe you will spot the flying AirDeer right above you.
December 2 - SWISS Singers and Elves
Who doesn't know the procedure: getting off the plane, going through passport control and waiting for luggage are usually not the big highlights of a flight. However, when our guests on flights LX563, LX1953, LX19 and LX977 came to their baggage belt at the arrivals hall on 2 December, it was not just their suitcases waiting for them: No - in the spirit of LXmas - they were greeted by our SWISS Singers with cheerful Christmas carols and immediately enchanted. In addition, hard-working elves handed out delicious Christmas biscuits to sweeten the day for our guests.
December 6 - Father Christmas and Grittibänz
We all know that Father Christmas is constantly on the road during Advent Season. He has a lot to do in terms of organisation, but he still takes special time for the most important to-dos. Among others, for the SWISS flights LX724 to Amsterdam, LX632 to Paris and LX2026 to Madrid. Father Christmas was on board on all three of these flights, handing out delicious Grittibänz.
December 9 - Christmas socks
Our recommendation for relaxing long-haul flights? You should make yourself very comfortable. In addition to comfort, it is also essential to stretch your feet. Our guests on flight LX160 to Tokyo on 9 December were pleasantly surprised when they entered our Boeing 777 and found a surprise on their seats and amenity kits that combines comfort, Christmas and practicality: Christmas socks.
December 15 - Elves and mulled wine on board
On the LX2032 flight to and from Madrid on 15 December, our guests were surprised by hard-working elves with hot mulled wine, sweet punch and delicious praline stars. The scent of cinnamon, cloves and oranges filled our plane and ensured a good mood on board.
December 20 - Upgrade Gate
Where could you decorate gingerbread? Have your picture taken with Santa Claus? Send photo postcards to your loved ones and win business class upgrades? That's right - at the LXmas Gate! On 20 December, our LXmas crew made the waiting time especially sweet for guests waiting in Zurich for their flights to New York and Boston.
The story behind LXmas
What's the story behind the LXmas activities? Read more about little Nick and his friends and how their writing to Father Christmas sparked a whole movement.
LXmas 2017 - how it all started
Day after day, children open a door on the Advent calendar. Their eyes sparkle, and laughter buzzes around. They can hardly wait any longer and are completely enchanted by the Christmas season. Nevertheless, Nick and his friends miss this anticipation among the adults: Do they still believe in the magic of Christmas at all? Do they still let themselves be enchanted?
These doubts give Nick an idea. He writes a letter to Father Christmas and the Christ Child with a request: Maybe they know how to get adults to believe in the magic of Christmas again. That was in December 2017. The children's call for help also reached us.
Together with Father Christmas and the Christ Child, we had an idea. For everyone, children and adults, to be enchanted by Christmas, we must go back to the origin of this magic. We organised a special SWISS flight to the far north with LXmas, and it brought a plane full of expectant children and parents to Lapland. In Levi, Finland, they experienced a Finnish Christmas fairy tale over two days.
LXmas 2018 - A movement emerges
What Nick had initiated in December 2017 developed into a real movement a year later. More children joined Nick and his friends, and they wanted to help bring back the magic of Christmas for the whole family in Advent 2018 too. Nick told the children about last year's trip with LXmas and hatched a plan to get the adults to travel with them to the home of Christmas. Because they were sure: We could rely on the support of Father Christmas, the Christ Child and SWISS again this year. Therefore, with the help of the children, we also operated a Christmas flight to the North in 2018. LXmas brought families from Switzerland to the heart of Finnish Lapland. They spent an Advent weekend in Rovaniemi and were enchanted by many magical moments.
LXmas 2019 - The anticipation was great
Word of LXmas' wonderful trips has spread throughout Switzerland. By now, children and adults knew about the SWISS special flight and wanted to be part of it. Therefore, it happened that our crew and families from all over Switzerland were again preparing for a trip to the magical winter wonderland in the far North. Nick and his friends had reached their destination once again.
