Crew Tips for Miami: First Officer Sascha's Favourite Culinary Hotspots and Views

In our Crew Tips section, a crew member reveals his or her favourite places in a SWISS destination. Find out first-hand where our crews like to eat, shop and enjoy the best views. This time, First Officer Sascha shares his impressions of the tropical US metropolis of Miami and tells us what fascinates him about the city - from rooftop bars and brunch spots to culinary hotspots and hip clubs.

Sascha: I was able to do part of my flight training in Florida. Since then, Miami has held a special place in my heart. The tropical vibe, the colourful cultural offerings, the perfect mix of a city break and beach holiday - there are certainly enough reasons to make Miami a place of longing for me.

Delicious food

Asian Brunch at ZUMA

Probably the best brunch in town is at ZUMA on Sundays. It's not cheap, but it's definitely a "must-try". The buffet offers the best that Asian cuisine has to offer and is accompanied by champagne à discrétion. You can hardly start the day in more style. Book early! zumarestaurant.com

Egg Benedicts & Bowls at The Local House

For a great start to the day, I like to visit "The Local House" on Ocean Drive. I usually can't resist the Egg Benedict, but bowl lovers also get their money's worth here. localhouse.com

Unique Pizzas at Mister 01

At this pizzeria, the name says it all: In the USA, so-called "01 visas" are given to people with extraordinary talents. In this case, it is the unique pizza that enabled the restaurant owner Renato Viola to enter the country. My recommendation: Pizza Claudio, a dream for truffle fans - mhmmm.... mistero1.com

Dining at the Faena Hotel

If you fancy something a little more extravagant, I recommend a visit to the art deco Faena Hotel. There is enough to fill an evening: A steak grilled to perfection over an open fire at Los Fuegos, one of the well known shows in the hotel's own theatre - that's my idea of an all-round Miami evening! faena.com

Amazing views & bars

Drinks at the Hotel Rooftop

When I am on holiday, I enjoy the Watr at the Rooftop Bar of the "1 Hotel" for a drink with a view and a unique modern flair. Located directly on South Beach, it is the perfect place to start the night in style. 1hotels.com

Happy Hour at the Lido Bayside Grill

The Lido Bayside Grill ist my favourite place to enjoy the sunset with a view of downtown. Happy hour, a waterfront patio and a gorgeous view - what more could you ask for? lidobayside.com

Relaxing at the Broken Shaker

In a cosy backyard atmosphere, you can enjoy fine cocktails and bar food with a young crowd. The pool and atmospheric lighting make this a great place to start the evening away from the hustle and bustle. freehandhotels.com

Dancing at Dante's HiFi

When I feel like shaking a leg, I head for Dante's HiFi. The "vinyl only" bar is all about the good old vinyl. But the eye doesn't miss out either: the whole hip repertoire of contemporary fashion that Miami is on offer here. danteshifi.com

Shopping

Outlet-shopping at Sawgrass Mills

In the typical American outlet mall "Sawgrass Mills", every shopping heart is guaranteed to beat a few beats faster. The largest outlet mall in America is only 40 minutes away from Miami and a variety of shuttles are offered to pick you up directly at the hotel and bring you back again. simon.com
