Reconstruction work at Check-in 1 at Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport is renovating its baggage sorting facilities in a second phase from 29 October 2024 until spring 2025. During this time, there will be changes for SWISS guests at Check-in 1 and 3.
If you have already checked in online or received your boarding pass automatically, you will find the correct check-in area for your baggage on your boarding pass. If this is not the case, please check the information screens at the airport where the correct check-in area for your flight will be displayed. Scroll down this page for more information.
SWISS Economy and SWISS Premium Economy passengers
During the reconstruction work, passengers travelling in SWISS Economy and SWISS Premium Economy can use Check-in 3, located above the train station in the Airport Shopping area. Children travelling alone or passengers with animals as cargo are requested to continue using Check-in 1. Passengers with reduced mobility may use either Check-in 1 or Check-in 3.
SWISS First and SWISS Business passengers
SWISS Business and SWISS First passengers can continue to use the usual counters in Check-in 1. This also applies to passengers with HON Circle, Senator, Frequent Traveller and Star Alliance Gold status. If you are travelling by train, SWISS First and SWISS Business passengers will also find individual counters at Check-in 3. They are located above the station in the Airport Shopping area. In all other cases, we recommend that you use Check-in 1.
Passengers with reduced mobility may use either Check-in 1 or Check-in 3.
Finding your way around Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport does its best to make your check-in and baggage handling experience smooth and convenient. Signs at the airport will guide you from your arrival at the airport to your check-in area.
Please also note that Zurich Airport has closed the direct link on Level 0 between airport shopping and Check-in 1 for three years since 28 February 2024 due to extensive building works. You can only get from airport shopping to Check-in 1 via the airport shopping gallery and Check-in 2.
Alternate ways to check in and drop-off your baggage
Due to limited capacity in the check-in areas during the reconstruction, we recommend that you use one of the many alternative check-in and baggage drop-off facilities at the airport.
Travelling with hand baggage
If you are travelling with hand baggage only, you can use online check-in or have your Boarding pass sent to you automatically so that you can go straight to security at the airport.
Travelling with checked baggage
If you are travelling with checked baggage, there are a number of ways to avoid queuing at the check-in counter.
Print your baggage tag before you leave home and use the Self Bag Drop:
Print out your baggage tag at one of the many baggage machines and check in your baggage yourself at the Self Bag Drop in Check-in 3 or Check-in 2 (row 5).
Have your baggage picked up conveniently at home with the AirPortr service.
With the day-before-check-in service, you can check in your baggage up to 23 hours prior to your departure and outside of the peak travel times.
More information about the reconstruction work
Since 2017, the baggage handling system at Zurich Airport has undergone a major overhaul and expansion, partly because key components will soon reach the end of their service life. As a result, this year and already the previous year, operations at Check-in 1 are only possible at one of the two wings of the building during the winter period.
