At the airport with children
Being on board an aircraft is generally an exciting adventure for children. If your little ones are well prepared beforehand, you as parents can also travel free from stress. Special regulations apply to children travelling alone.
At the airport
Go exploring with your children to help pass the time waiting at the airport. You can go to the observation deck to watch the aircraft take off, and there are many restaurants with all the things children like. You can also ask the airport staff about any play areas. All major airports now have areas where children can play, tinker and generally let off steam. At Zurich Airport, these play areas are in Transit A and Dock E. Always allow enough time to go through the security check and passport control.
Check-in
Please check the check-in times for your departure airport and plan for additional waiting times during peak season. Please note that check-in the day before for certain destinations (e.g. USA) requires all passengers to be physically present when checking in their baggage.
Family check-in at Zurich Airport
Families can relax as they set off on their holiday: start dreaming of your upcoming adventures before you take off in our welcoming, specially designed family-friendly check-in areas. You can find the family check-in area at Zurich Airport at Check-in 1.
Security screening
Passengers travelling with infants can carry milk and liquid baby foods in their hand baggage. Both can be carried outside the transparent plastic bag and can exceed the maximum quantity of liquids permissible in hand baggage. However, milk and liquid baby foods are restricted to the quantity required for the duration of the flight and must be presented separately at the security check.

Pushchairs and prams
- At most airports, you can keep a foldable pushchair or pram1 until shortly before boarding the aircraft. It will be returned to you immediately on arrival.
- Enquire at baggage check-in whether your pushchair or pram can be taken with you and handed over immediately at the aircraft.
- If you have a connecting flight, inform our staff on departure whether you only need your pushchair or pram at your final destination (recommended for short connecting times) or also require it at the transfer airport.
- Our ground staff at the gate will make sure that your pushchair or pram1 is loaded onto the aircraft.
- It will be returned on the passenger bridge if you arrive at a terminal gate, or directly at the aircraft stairs if you arrive by terminal bus.
- If your pushchair or pram1 is not returned to you upon arrival, please contact the gate staff or the nearest Service Centre. Please bear in mind that delivery may take a few minutes.
- Delivery directly at the aircraft is not possible at the following airports: Birmingham, Bordeaux, Bari, Catania, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Hanover, Copenhagen, London Heathrow, Marseille, Nice, Nuremberg, Olbia, Palermo, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Valencia.
- You may bring your pushchair or pram1 with you free of charge.
- You can take so-called “pocket buggies” with you on board as part of your permitted hand baggage allowance.
- Please note that it must be a completely foldable travel pram.
