Explore Florence's beauty and history with SWISS

Between its Renaissance and medieval architecture, unique culinary traditions and modern lifestyle that blends with tradition, there’s also no shortage of things to do and experience here in Florence. Florence still claims one of the grandest collections of historical sites and ancient ruins as well as a rich history, and we believe it will easily become your next favorite travel destination.
A true Enlightenment era city
A few of the main sights of Florence include its domed cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore or The Duomo locally – which was built during the 13th, 14th and early 15th centuries – a great place to begin your journey. Not far from there, you will discover the Campanile and the Baptistery buildings. And of course, not to be outdone, the city’s historic center – centro storico di Firenze – is home to many of the city’s oldest structures that even include old city walls and the Fountain of Neptune – a beautiful marble sculpture next to a still-operating ancient Roman aqueduct.
And of course, what would any visit to any Italian city be if it were not filled with some serious culinary indulgence? Florentine cuisine is the result of a culinary tradition referred to as “peasant eating”. However, do not let the wording trick you. Florentine food is still fantastic and unique, and the countless restaurants and cafes that line the city’s streets truly make Florence your culinary oyster.
And on that note – the Florence region is not far from the Chianti region. Here some of the finest Italian wines are grown. The area’s Sangiovese grapes are featured strongly in many local wines, and make for some true tasting experiences for viticulturists and other travelers alike.
Must visit:
- Santa Maria del Fiore (the Duomo)

- The Fountain of Neptune and nearby Roman Aqueducts
- Art museums that feature works from the fathers of Italian painting including Cimabue and Giotto, as well as Donatello, da Vinci and Michelangelo.
