Over 700 participants attended the career days at Zurich Airport. Across eight events, SWISS offered insights into their exciting career fields, highlighting various career paths. We offer attractive entry-level opportunities in numerous fields. This year alone, SWISS is recruiting 1,000 cabin crew members, 80 pilots, and around 600 ground staff across departments such as technical, marketing, cargo, HR, and finance.
SWISS Ladies Day: A Dream Career as a Pilot
In addition to a general pilot career information event, which attracted 170 participants, a day was dedicated specifically to women interested in a piloting career. The SWISS Ladies Day highlighted the goal of bringing more women into the cockpit. Given the still relatively low percentage of women in the cockpit, this event aimed to inspire more women to pursue a career as pilots. Around 40 women gathered at the airport to learn more.
The event was led by two SWISS female pilots, a male SWISS pilot, and a trainee pilot, who provided the participants with intriguing insights into the profession. They outlined the entire career path—from the application and selection process to training at the "European Flight Academy" and the first flight with SWISS. In a lively panel discussion, they addressed participants' questions.
The private setting fostered an open conversation, enabling women to ask questions they might otherwise hesitate to ask. "I probably wouldn’t feel comfortable asking the same questions if there were many men in the room. That’s why I think Ladies Day is fantastic and hope it continues in this way," said one participant enthusiastically.
Following the engaging discussion, the participants were taken to the tarmac, where they toured a Boeing 777 inside and out. Tour guides explained technical details such as engines, the intricate landing gear, and the famous "Remove Before Flight" tag, which symbolizes readiness for takeoff. Inside the aircraft, the women had the rare chance to peek into the cockpit—a memorable moment for many.
SWISS Careers for Ground Staff
For the first time, an information event for ground staff careers was held as part of the career days. SWISS employs approximately 2,200 ground staff across various areas. Over 45 people joined the online session, and more than 50 participants attended in person in Kloten. During a panel discussion, participants learned firsthand from SWISS employees in areas such as technical, marketing, cargo, HR, and finance about the career options available. At several stands, SWISS recruiters also conducted CV screenings, offering valuable tips for applications. Participants also had the opportunity to take a new professional photo for their CV, which they could download via QR code. Tobias, 35, summed up the day: "SWISS is interesting to me because the opportunities for personal development are so great."
SWISS Experience Day
The day began at the vibrant Operations Center at the airport, where participants were divided into two groups. The first group, accompanied by a trainer and two technical staff, explored the hangar, where they experienced an Airbus A330 up close and visited the workshop to see how maintenance is performed. The youth were thrilled to learn that SWISS Technics trains 24 apprentices each year and has available apprenticeships for 2026 for automation and polymechanic positions.
The tour not only included the aircraft but also the SWISS Technics workshop, where participants observed mechanics working on the planes and tested their knowledge in an exciting quiz. Later, they entered the cargo hold and had the opportunity to visit the cockpit and feel like real pilots. "My expectation for today was to learn more about SWISS Technics, and that expectation was fully met!" shared one excited participant.
The second group delved into the roles of cabin crew members and pilots. They were split into teams and had the chance to question cabin crew members. The youth learned about the daily challenges and exciting experiences of crew members, as well as the various aviation careers that contribute to a successful flight. SWISS Experience Day was not only educational but also an inspiring experience that introduced the youth to the wide range of possibilities within the aviation industry.
Taking Off Together with SWISS
The career days at the airport were a resounding success, both in terms of the number of participants and the positive feedback received by the organizers. The success of these career days underscores the importance of events that inspire people and make a future in aviation tangible. Many participants can now envision a career with SWISS. The career days may be over, but SWISS remains committed to creating a forward-looking and inspiring environment for talent who want to take off together with SWISS and experience the fascination of aviation.
Thank You to the Organizers
A heartfelt thank you to all the staff who organized, conducted, and accompanied these days. Without you, it would not have been possible to bring SWISS closer to so many people.
