As the on-duty manager of the Network Operations Control (NOC) Team, he monitors and controls current flight operations with his top priority goal being to stick to the given flight schedule. Not always an easy job! Like a game of dominos, the least little problem with any cog in this complex system impacts on the entire operation. There are many factors involved: The weather, congested airways, repairs that need to be done and delayed connecting passengers can quickly lead to disruptions. That’s when Martin Stamm’s swift action, pragmatism and creativity are called for. Together with the various specialists in the command centre he is responsible for finding solutions to get flight operations back on track. “Sometimes we have to take difficult decisions such as cancelling a flight.” Martin’s work requires years of experience and detailed knowledge of how all aspects of flight operations are interconnected.
